Guitar Art
This is one of my favorite new canvases to paint on. To reflect the spirit of the instrument, I’ve played with an edgier, tattoo-inspired style.
Fender Custom Shop Telecaster
Rhett Shull entrusted me with his Custom Shop Telecaster. The instrument had been reliced, which is a process of distressing a guitar to make it look and feel like a vintage, worn instrument. I played with the negative spaces created from the relicing, and hand-painted artwork that literally swims through the front and back of the guitar.
Novo Guitars
I collaborated with Dennis Fano, the founder of Novo Guitars, to create a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece that was displayed at the 2025 NAMM Conference. There is a history of hand-painted florals on guitars, and I wanted to honor that tradition with lush, red peonies to reflect the gorgeous tone and design of the instrument.
Mustang Bass
Painting guitars all started with my husband, Philip Conrad, and a Mustang Bass that he was modifying. We were sipping our morning coffee on the porch and thought, “What if Shea painted custom art on the bass?” Rather than paint over the bright coral body, I played with a cut-out technique resembling woodblock art.
